Improvisation practice and performance (Poster)

Kirstie and Michael will be combining their extensive experience of dance improvisation in this workshop. They will be sharing what has kept them inspired in their practices for the last three decades. The workshop will include practical explorations of movement and attention. They will aim to develop and tune kinaesthetic and perceptual awareness as a means of expanding experience and the grasp of what is available to us when we move. The classes will be about listening in the body and applying that listening to the activity of moving.

The work will be facilitated through exercises, open time for play and exploration, movement scores, observations and discussion. Much of the work will be experienced through partnering and connection with others, balanced with solo time for processing and reflection. The workshop will tap into the dancers inherent kinaesthetic awareness, and provide structures that offer the dancers own physical intelligence and range an open ground for exploration and integration. The workshop will be a forum for a shared learning experience between participants and teachers.
