URBS Urban Laboratory
This is a project that takes as its central motif urban space; its protagonists are its users.
It is based on the observation of public spaces; video becomes a fundamental tool, a notebook, sketch pad and work diary. From this element, the choreographer will build a gaze on which to later base the scenic discourse. Conceived as a process, it will be developed in different phases that give rise to works with different formats and intentions.
Public squares, benches, metro stations, street corners, phone booths, street crossings… collections of routines, daily occurrences and chance will be the object of the gaze of the choreographer, observer of a choreography of infinite instantaneous compositions constantly written by anonymous bodies….

During four representations, five dancers and some thirty other people represent themselves. What is staged is a casting of people of all ages to compose a sample of urban weave; entirely unique people who bring their natural gestures, spontaneous and ordinary, to a choreography that is not previously defined but that comes out instantaneously through the actions and the games proposed.
Each presentation is unique and each day different people are invited to participate in this casting. They work with a fixed team and with a more or less determined script whose basic ingredients are improvisation and chance.

En residència
Partícules en moviment que s’encomanen les unes a les altres per la inèrcia, per la forma o pel xoc…, així som els humans en aquests espais urbans on semblem formiguetes, amunt i avall sense pausa. L’Àngels Margarit agafa la poesia d’aquest tempus imparable i la va fotografiant, de manera que les imatges congelades de moviments inconscientment repetits van dibuixant un ball que és la coreografia partida de la vida, on l’únic límit per a aquest joc de variacions és l’espai, com les parets d’una taula de billar entre les quals les boles creen línies, caramboles, cauen o reboten. I, alhora, el moviment és el que crea l’espai, de manera que la dansa no és res més que una estructura practicable i en moviment constant.
Amb un espectacle que obre la finestra de l’observació i que ens fa sensibles als petits detalls, la coreògrafa ha volgut aixecar el vel que suposa tot teatre amb la realitat, i ha fet entrar a l’escenari gent del carrer que no són ballarins però que ballen i, sense mostrar-se, es deixen mirar, mentre els ballarins ensenyen la seva feina, amb el teló de fons d’un vídeo d’imatges urbanes que serveix d’imant als seus moviments. Ells hi posen el cos, mentre que els altres hi posen el rostre (i entre tots l’humor). I que diferents que som, mirats així de prop! I que bé que ens movem en massa! I com ens atrapen els seus moviments i acabem tots iguals!
Reflex d’actituds, de modes, de circulació de la informació… la peça aprofita la plàstica de les multituts per explicar-ne el seu funcionament. Urbs#1/càsting és una obra coral de vouyerisme respectuós on tot tipus d’espectadors es poden trobar atrapats per les seves harmonies vibrants tant com per la sensibilitat de cadascuna de les seves cordes.

Puede que en URBS#1 prevalezca el experimento, el proyecto en proceso, el didactismo de mostrarse al público enfrentado al espejo de sus rutinas y movimientos cotidianos. Puede, entonces, si la vida se explica a sí misma con su mera presencia (…) que una pieza coreográfica no tenga análogamente por qué mantener tampoco una continuada tensión de muelle en su armazón dramático para ser no sólo válida, sino interesante (…)
Desde un punto de vista narrativo, en URBS#1 no pasa nada. Y, sin embargo, todo lo que nos presenta es real. En la pieza, vemos moverse bailarines y gente de la calle. (…) tanto unos como otros subrayan con sus acciones la cualidad de bisturí que caracteriza la danza contemporánea.
Al realismo de la metáfora, de la mímesis, presente en el todopoderoso cine, se impone aquí la realidad misma del teatro por medio de esta presencia metonímica, extensiva, de nosotros mismos como urbs viva. La gastronomía del alimento fresco gana en sabor a la del congelado.

Actions and interventions in urban spaces
SOUVENIR is an urban intervention that invites the audience to participate and learn a sequence of quotidian movement that four dancers repeat.
Conceived for green zones, and aimed at general audiences of all ages, it becomes a shared game and meditation about the thought that leads to movement.
The piece is part of the project URBS, a laboratory on the urban by Àngels Margarit / Cia. Mudances.

URBS Encorporacions es un projecte comunitari, transgeneracional que treballa entorn la idea de ciutat, arquitectures urbanes i domèstiques. URBS és un projecte obert que pren diferents formes segons el lloc i la gent que hi participa.
Parteix de l’observació dels espais públics i privats que habitem, i de les coreografies espontanies que s’hi produeixen; de la manera en que cada lloc estructura i organitza les nostres relacions, el moviment és qui crea l’espai, l’espai és allo que modifiquem amb els nostres actes, construint relats fisics en aquesta interacció.
The project Creators IN RESIDENCE in high-schools proposes that resident creators conceive unpublished works of art specifically meant to be developed together with a group of secondary-education students. Creators intervene in high-schools as authors, developing their own work of art, and the transmission of art is achieved by means of participation, dialogue and direct contact with the artist and his work. Reflection and analysis are also key steps in the learning process, and they can be set and shared by means of blogs.
Thanks to this direct encounter between art and education, the aim of this project is tripled:
- Encouraging that students discover creation process of contemporary art from direct contact and on-going dialogue with a creator, so that they can think about art from their own experience.
- Promoting and generating situations and contexts stimulating innovation and artistic creativity.
- Favouring that high-schools actively become centres of culture, art and thought, a welcoming reception of creation and a venue for experimentation and artistic innovation.
